MEMOS/ Studio, News
Idea is cheap.
The past two weeks, Yung Studio was invited to Vegas as a “fan activation team” for Lady Gaga.
Even though we’ve worked closely with Gaga on her website, tour branding, merch, and social, we’re still a tiny, new team. The on-site production crew didn’t know what to expect from us—most only knew us as “the web team” just days before the tour kicked off.
We had zero experience creating content for a massive screen, working with large-scale interactive setups, or syncing with a show at this level. From building the submission site (front-end and back-end), to crafting the visualizer app and programming all the video transitions—looking back, it’s actually insane we pulled it off. We made Voices of MAYHEM real for fans in just four days.
The idea was the easy part. We knew we wanted to spotlight fan stories as part of MAYHEM. But execution on the ground was way more complicated than we imagined: bad WiFi, broken geotags, app crashes, long rendering times, tight set transitions, spam, bots…
Still, we did it. All three nights of Voices of MAYHEM in Vegas—live. Over 12,000 submissions. Stories about coming out, identity struggles, messy breakups, true love, and even a few marriage proposals. Some fans told us they cried before the show even started.
So, what’s next? This week we’re making backend improvements (we still can’t keep up with all the responses), refining our review process, and—more importantly—dreaming up ways to evolve the experience for each city. More surprises? We’re still noodling.
Got ideas, Little Monsters? Send them our way. We’ll handle the hard part.
See you in SF!
